Wellman brothers raise $100 for animal shelter with lemonade and Popsicle stand
Aug. 19, 2020 1:00 am
WELLMAN - The McLennan brothers – Chris, 9, and Andrew, 7 – combined their entrepreneurial skills with their love of animals by opening a lemonade and Popsicle stand in front of their house last Friday. Before long, the boys raised $100 for the animal shelter in Washington, Paws and More.
The brothers had never opened their own stand before, but after not being able to continue their regular visits to the shelter due to COVID restrictions, they wanted to find a new way to help.
'It's so they can buy food and litter and other stuff,” Chris said.
Andrew said his favorite animals to visit in the shelter are the cats – 'dogs are crazy.” At home, the family has two cats they adopted from the shelter.
The idea to raise money through an at-home business just came to him, Andrew said.
'I had the idea of a Popsicle stand, and Chris had the idea of the lemonade stand,” he said.
The boys had limited customers that day, '10 or nine” if you ask Andrew, but before long they were able to raise $100 to donate.
Their mom, Becky Shaw, said when her sons approached her with the idea she was proud of them for thinking not of themselves, but of other people.
'It makes me feel good because they know how important animals are to us and how important they are to other people,” she said.
Chris McLennan, 9 and Andrew, 7, created a lemonade and Popsicle stand outside their home in Wellman on Friday, Aug. 14. Before long the pair raised $100 they donated to the Paws and More Animal Shelter in Washington.
