The teachers from across the Washington Community School District gathered at the high school Monday morning for their 20th annual educator appreciation breakfast, organized by the Washington Chamber of Commerce.
“We had sponsors there to help welcome everyone back to school,” Chamber event secretary Alisha Davis said. “The community as a whole, business and educators, all work together to make our community what it is, so I think it’s great to have them all working together.”
The event included the breakfast, of course, plus friendly competitions and presentations from district leaders.
“There are some things we go over that we’re required to go over, but other than that we want to get people pumped up and able to serve our students the best they possibly can,” Superintendent Willie Stone said.
Stone said the event, which brought the whole district staff to Washington High School, was a refreshing change of pace from the year before.
“Last year we only met with buildings, every 45 minutes we had a new group come in,” he said. “This year we’re all together, it feels a lot different, a lot better … We’re excited about the school year (and) can’t wait to get kids here.”
