There?s been a lot of press lately about the building of a new municipal pool and recreation center, the costs of doing so, and where the funding will come from for these projects.
I haven?t seen or read a word about providing funding for the care and upgrading of our very popular beach at Waterworks Park (Lake Bonnifield).
If the city of Fairfield is going to spend $2 million or more on a new outdoor pool and recreation center, I?d like to see funding included for a new beach bathhouse, beach improvements, ridding the lake of Canada geese, cleaning up the lake?s watershed to improve water quality, and providing an ongoing maintenance fund that will allow the Parks and Recreation Department to do a good job of maintaining the park and the beach.
A lot of people get fresh air, sunshine, exercise and good outdoor experiences at Waterworks Park and the beach. Let?s consider their needs and preferences, and ensure that this widely-used public amenity gets the funding and support that it deserves.
