Former Henry County Supervisor Kent White said he misses public service.
That?s one of the reasons White is running for the Ward I seat on the Mt. Pleasant City Council.
Tim Gray currently serves as the Ward I representative but announced at the Aug. 26 city council meeting that he would not be seeking re-election because he is furthering his education.
?I enjoyed my work very much on the board of supervisors and miss that type of work, the interaction with people and problem solving,? White said. ?I was also nudged by some people to run.?
He said he has no agenda behind his candidacy. ?I think the city is doing fine,? he remarked. ?Hopefully, I can be part of keeping it going in a positive direction.?
White said he has considered running for the position for about a month. ?I would never run against someone I knew socially. I was told Tim was not running, I live in Ward I and it stimulated the thought process.?
White is a Mt. Pleasant native. He and his wife, Pat, returned to their hometown about 10 years ago to care for ailing parents.
White spent 20 years as a pilot in the United States Navy and also was a commercial airline pilot and international captain (which means he could fly anywhere in the world) for 14 years. When he retired from his duties as a commercial pilot, he was a captain on a Boeing 747.
The city election will be Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Mt. Pleasant Mayor Steve Brimhall said he will be seeking another term and council members Steve Engberg and Matt Crull also said they will be running for re-election.
