Five members of the White Cloud Club met in the United Church of Crawfordsville parking lot on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021 at 10:15 a.m. for their annual club tour.
The group first drove to Winfield to view their Freedom Rock and then on to Mediapolis to view theirs on their way to Burlington for lunch at the Drake restaurant. They enjoyed the view of the Mississippi while eating lunch and visiting. They had their pictures taken with two of the attractions at the Drake, the old London phone booth and the two lady mannequins that welcome those to the restaurant.
Next on their agenda was driving down Snake Alley. It was built in 1894 and in 2017 was recognized in Ripley's "Believe it or Not" as being "Unbelievably Crooked" and was the No. 1 Odd Spot in their "Odd Spots Across America Campaign."
Each year an Uphill Bike Race is held on Memorial weekend, as well as an Art Fair held annually on Father's Day.
Next they drove down Jefferson Street to view the many changes since they'd last been there.
Finding the Blackhawk statue overlooking the Mississippi was next on their agenda as they headed to Crapo Park and Dankwardt Park and soon learned the statue had been moved to the Historical Society after it had been vandalized.
They then found their way to the airport and the new road that connects Highway 61/Roosevelt Avenue, and then through the manufacturing area and to the Hospital and back to Highway 34 to New London for an ice cream break before returning home. They drove on several areas of the new Four Lanes.
Those making the outing, along with their chauffeur, Betty Lintz, were Jolene Colthurst, Pat Miller, Margaret Patterson and Pauline Richardson.
The next meeting is an 11:30 a.m. luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021 at the Pizza Ranch in Washington. Secret Sisters will be revealed with a token gift and election of officers will be held.
Community members are reminded that the Food Pantry is held the first and third Thursday of each month at the United Church of Crawfordsville. Seniors and those in need of extra assistance may come from 2-3:30 p.m. and all others from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Items are still needed for the Ingathering Kits. A list is on the table in the Narthex. There is a designated box on the table and Pat Miller will pack them up and have them ready for the Ingathering in Mt. Pleasant the first Saturday in November. You may also give cash donations and she will purchase the supplies for you.
