A day after Mt. Pleasant physician Dr. Warren Scott suffered a heart attack at his home last Wednesday, his wife Betty was expecting a funeral soon.
Instead, Scott continued to improve at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City over the weekend and was up walking around Monday morning, a recovery that his wife said has left doctors and nurses at the hospital shaking their heads in disbelief.
"It's a miracle," Betty Scott said Monday by phone from her husband's hospital room. "It's absolutely a miracle."
Dr. Harold "Pete" Rankin, who started the Family Medicine practice with Scott 20 years ago and has been a colleague of Scott's for more than 30 years, said he visited Scott Sunday night and Scott was sitting up in bed, talking and "carrying on like nothing ever happened."
Betty Scott said her husband will undergo more tests at Mercy Hospital this week, but he hopes to make a full recovery and return to his Mt. Pleasant medical practice.
Scott expressed her thanks for the thoughts and prayers she and her husband have received from the Mt. Pleasant community.
"We are so thankful for the people of Mt. Pleasant and their prayers and love," she said.
