The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of north central Illinois, northwest Illinois, west central Illinois, east central Iowa, northeast Iowa, southeast Iowa, including Jefferson County and northeast Missouri.
Sustained northwest winds, 25-35 mph with gusts to 40-50 mph and isolated gusts to near 55 mph are possible throughout today and tonight, especially in eastern Iowa.
Loose objects will be blown around by the strong winds. In addition, small tree branches may break.
The wind also can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution if traveling or working outdoors.
On Thursday and Friday, a storm system will track across the region and bring a chance of snow to the region. Strong winds of 20-30 mph may cause some blowing and drifting of snow that is on the ground.
This system will also bring a shot of arctic air into the region Thursday night into Friday morning with low temperatures in the single digits above zero. Wind chills will be well below zero Friday morning.
