WINFIELD — If you missed the John Deere History program on March 29 at Occasions on Oak, you missed one of the most successful programs the Winfield Historical Society has held. But don’t worry, the program will be posted on our new Youtube channel soon. Look for the link to be posted on the Winfield, Iowa Historical Society & Museum Facebook page.
“It was standing room only,” Winfield Historical Society board member Susan Beard said.
Speakers Neil Hillyard, Dave Tandy, and Jerry Steele gave an outstanding program about the history of the John Deere franchise in Winfield from 1932 to the present. Approximately 135 people attended and were able to view many John Deere items from the Hillyard family, Jerry Steele, and the Winfield Museum. There were 12 antique tractors on display in the front of the building. Fortunately, it was a beautiful day to be outside!
We would like to thank all the people involved in making this event possible: Chris and Mark Huston for providing the venue and shop space, Mt. Pleasant Hy Vee for a $100 gift card to purchase food for the event, Costco for donating the chips, the Hillyard family, Dave Tandy, and Jerry Steele. The historical society also thanks Winfield Public Library for the use of a screen and projector and Deputy City Clerk Lisa Rees at Winfield City Office for printing materials.
A big thank you to Carl and Maribelle Lund, Carl and Nancy Davis, Kurt and Kathy Helphrey, Mark Huston, Kenny Stodgill, and Ed Seggerman for bringing their antique tractors.
All proceeds from this event will go towards renovations of the future home of the museum. We are excited and looking forward to what is in store for the future!
Stay tuned for more museum happenings.
We are open Mondays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and by appointment. We hope to see you soon!
