Winfield hosting its 'Hillbilly Holiday'

WINFIELD ? Billed as ?Winfield?s Hillbilly Holiday,? Crooked Creek Days begins today (Friday) and continues throughout the weekend.

Some of the highlights of the annual event include the Cardboard Boat Regatta at Twin Lakes at 5 p.m. today. The parade will be at 10 a.m. Saturday with a hot dog eating contest following the parade at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The kids? tractor pull will be at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Other Saturday afternoon and evening noteworthy events include the Bill Riley Talent Show at 5 p.m. and a street dance from 8-11 p.m.

On Sunday, will be the car show, a volleyball tournament and an ecumenical church service at the Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Adult firefighter water fights are planned for 3 p.m. and there will be fireworks at dusk at the Twin Lakes Country Club.

A carnival runs all three days.

FRIDAY, JULY 31

4 p.m. ? Cardboard boat regatta registration;

5 p.m. ? Cardboard boat regatta at Twin Lakes;

5-11 p.m. ? Carnival;

5 p.m. ? Supper at Twin Lakes by the Methodist church.

SATURDAY, AUG. 1

7 a.m. ? Pancake breakfast at the Presbyterian church, hosted by the Presbyterian church;

7 a.m. ? Registration for the Crooke Creek Fun Run;

7:30 a.m. ? Crooked Creek 5K Fun Run begins, presented by the W-MU REC league;

8 a.m. ? Parade registration begins at Jamison Restoration;

9 a.m. ? Button door prizes begin with drawing every hour until 4 p.m.;

9 a.m. ? Registration for hot dog eating contest at information booth (register until 11:30 a.m., must be registered to compete);

10 a.m. ? Crooked Creek Days Parade, sponsored by the Winfield Lions Club;

11 a.m. ? Carnival opens;

11 a.m. ? Vendor booths open;

11 a.m. ? Ugly lamp contest and craftiest chair contest begin;

11 a.m. ? Lunch by The Open Bible Church and Italian Connection;

11 a.m. ? Adult slow-pitch co-ed softball tournament begins at the Winfield Commons;

12:30 p.m. ? Hot dog eating contest begins;

1 p.m. ? Kids? pedal pull starts, sponsored by Shelman Trucking, Prairie Ag and Sinclair Tractor, registration is at 12:30 p.m.

3 p.m. ? Kids needle in a haystack games begin;

3 p.m. Redneck bingo;

3 p.m. ? Toilet seat horseshoes (all 3 p.m. events will be by Mullen?s Body Shop);

5 p.m. ? Bill Riley Talen Show on the main stage, registration at 4:30 p.m.;

5 p.m. ? Dinner served by the Henry County Cattlemen?s Association;

6:30 p.m. ? Float contest award announced, sponsored by Casey?s General Store;

6:30 p.m. ? Auction and prize drawing begins (you must be present to win);

8-11 p.m. ? Family-friendly street dance compliments of Humphrey?s Sound.

SUNDAY, AUG. 2
