A Winfield man was arrested last week on multiple sexual offense charges.
On May 2, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations executed a search warrant at 2173 S Avenue, Winfield after allegations were made regarding sexual offenses against a minor by a registered sex offender.
Shawn Weaver, 44, was arrested and charged with sexual abuse in the second degree, second offense, a class B felony, lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony, sexual exploitation with a minor, a class C felony, indecent contact with a child, an aggravated misdemeanor, and two counts of sex offender registry violations, both aggravated misdemeanors.
According to court documents, a search of Weaver’s home turned up a Discord account, several cell phones, computers, an Xbox gaming system and a Google account, all of which were not registered on Weaver’s sex offender registry.
Investigators interviewed Weaver, and Weaver confessed to sexually assaulting the minor at least five times, as well as taking nude photographs of the minor.
“Weaver stated he knew what he was doing was wrong, but on those occasions he was having a bad day,” a probably cause affidavit filed by Deputy Kary Conger said.
Weaver also claimed that the minor was flirting with him on multiple occasions and that the minor “never told him no.”
Weaver is accused of engaging in multiple sexual acts with a minor in multiple counties. He also is accused of taking photographs of the incidents.
Weaver is being held in the Louisa County Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
Investigators said that the investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected.
