Winter storm to bring low temperatures, snow

The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities issued a hazardous weather outlook this morning for an area including Jefferson, Van Buren, Washington and Henry counties.

The outlook states 1 to 3 inches of snow is likely along and north of Interstate 80 as a fast-moving winter storm moves through the region.

Bitter cold wind chills are expected over the entire area Wednesday into Wednesday night. Dangerous wind chill values around 20 below zero will be possible along the Highway 20 corridor.

The seven-day forecast for Fairfield states there is a 60 percent chance of snow tonight, mainly between 1-4 a.m. Wednesday, with new snow accumulation of less than a half inch.

The forecast for Wednesday calls for a 30 percent chance of snow before 7 a.m., and the temperature falling to around 3 by 5 p.m., with wind chill values as low as minus 10. Wind chill values Wednesday night could be as low as minus 15.
