WINFIELD — Winfield-Mt. Union Elementary students received a Fall Festival as a reward for all their good behaviors throughout the first quarter this school year.
With the help of high school students and staff, preschool through fifth grade WMU students wore wide grins and had a blast as they visited seven different stations throughout the Fall Festival.
At one of the stations WMU high school dance team helped teach students some dance moves at the harvest hoedown in the small gym. There were many options to choose from in the art room where art teacher Elizabeth Schoening and the high school art students did some face painting. It was a good thing students weren’t dipping their faces in water when they went bobbing or fishing for apples as teams worked to grab apples from the water.
Things got a little crazy in the gym as high school football players helped the elementary kids play flag football games. Additionally, their agility was tested as they ran an obstacle course full of spiders, eyeballs and candy corn. All students were able to take a small gourd or pumpkin home to decorate their houses for Fall thanks to a donation by Garth and Sharon Murray of Columbus Junction.
Students had a little down time downtime with a Halloween themed snack and the Leaf Man story. After the story they made leaf rubbings.
