Woman killed in wreck

A woman was killed and three others were injured in a one-vehicle accident at 9:18 p.m. Sunday on Highway 34 about one mile west of Osage Avenue.

Margarita Ortiz Romero, age 37, of Sellersburg, Ind., was killed. Injured were Lucelia Caperon, age 42, 7-year-old Daniela Ortiz and 2-year-old Edgar Ortiz, all from Sellersburg.

According to the Iowa Highway Patrol?s minimal crash report, Ortiz Romero was driving a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer east on Highway 34. She lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected causing it to roll numerous times before coming to rest on its top in the eastbound lane of the highway.

According to the report, Caperon and Edgar Ortiz were transported by Jefferson County Area Ambulance to Jefferson County Health Center. Daniela Ortiz was transported from the accident site by Air Care to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
