Norris Asphalt Paving plans to begin working on the intermediate course of hot mix asphalt on Burlington Avenue/Business 34 from B Street east to just west of Nutmeg Avenue this week.
Work will begin with cleaning and preparing the existing surface followed by laying the asphalt.
When the mat has first been laid, traffic is not allowed to pass over it until the rollers have completed the compaction process, so some intersections will be closed and there will be limited access on the street for certain periods of time as the work progresses.
Drivers should use alternative routes and avoid Burlington/Business 34 as much as possible. The street will be open following the close of the working day.
When the intermediate course is complete, the contractor will lay the surface course over the entire length of Burlington/Business 34, and travel through the community will be nearly back to normal, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.
