Work continues on the new dog park coming to East Lake Park in Mt. Pleasant.
Gary Grunow, director of Parks and Recreation, said that the park is awaiting signage and other equipment to arrive before it can open.
“It’s taking a little bit longer to get things — COVID still is kind of pushing back out lead times,” he said.
Grunow said he does not know exactly when the park will open, but it will likely be completed sometime this fall.
The park will be 350 feet by 200 feet, and include separate sections for large and small dogs.
The project was set in motion last year when the city received a $19,000 donation to help start the project.
The rest of the project is funded by a $9,000 grant from the Henry County Community Foundation and around $20,000 from the park escrow fund.
“Once in a while in the past maybe a person or two has brought it up and not enough people expressed interest — last fall we had a lot more interest in it so we decided to go forward with the project,” Grunow said.
Grunow said he has seen a lot of anticipation for the park on Facebook and in the community.
“We definitely want to get it open as soon as we can,” he said.
