Work on South Ninth wrapping up
The construction crew working on South Ninth Avenue took a great leap forward Thursday when it paved the last remaining section of the road. City Engineering Technician Keith Henkel said there are a few odds and ends that have to be tied up, such as pouring around the manholes and finishing the curb and gutter. He said that the street would likely be open to the public by Thanksgiving, which is Nov. 25.

Jasper Construction is contracted to pave the street. The company began paving on Wednesday, Nov. 3, but was forced to shut down the project after its paver broke.
Henkel remarked that both tracks on the paver broke that day.
?One track broke, and it took them about 2 ½ hours to fix it,? he said. ?Then they went about another foot and the other track broke.?
The road crew had to suspend paving after the second break and after having paved about 30 feet. The crew did not pave the following day, but got the machine running again that Friday. Henkel said the paver has been running smoothly since its repair.
