WASHINGTON — The YMCA of Washington County Board approved a contentious management agreement for the Washington Steele Family Aquatic Center Monday, finalizing the document after weeks of negotiations with Washington officials and amendments from the city last week.
YMCA of Washington County CEO Amy Schulte said the private board’s vote was unanimous after a “lengthy discussion” between members and Mayor Jaron Rosien.
“In the end, the prevailing sentiment was that this operational agreement was in the best interest of the kids and families in our community and we want to continue to be a part of delivering this service,” she said in an email. “While we may differ on our perspectives, both entities have the best interest of the community as their main objective.”
As approved by the Washington City Council last week, the agreement raises the city’s annual payment to the Y from its current rate of $3,000 to $15,000 over the next three years. Other amendments included wording changes, and explicit identification of regulatory agencies for the pool.
