Yard waste can be burned in April; brush pickup set May 2

Burning within the Fairfield city limits is allowed during the month of April on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday during daylight hours.

Burning is allowable only when wind conditions are appropriate and must be contained and supervised at all times. No burning is allowed in city streets or alleys.

Yard waste, brush and limbs can be burned, but trash, household garbage or scrap building materials cannot be burned.

Burning also is allowed during October and November.

The citywide spring brush pickup will start at 7 a.m. May 2. Brush should not be put out before April 25.

All burnable and chippable brush ? nothing bigger than 24-inches in diameter and 13-feet in length ? should be put in a neat pile adjacent to the street, but away from poles, fences and water shut-off valves.

The city will no longer conduct the annual bulk item trash pickup due to rising costs and funding deficits. Residents will need to contact waste haulers about bulk trash removal or donate reusable items to the numerous local resell businesses.

City code prohibits trash in yards and city right-of-way areas. Violators can be fined if the items are not removed.
