“Yarnbomb” around Washington square
May. 5, 2022 8:13 am
WASHINGTON — Some mysterious UFOs were discovered in the trees on the Washington square this weekend. As your stroll around the block you will notice fiber aliens, rocket ships, astronauts, and all things outer space-related.
A supersecret group affiliated with the library, called YEOW (Yarn Engineers of Washington) is responsible for the festivity. About twice a year they conduct a “yarnbomb” in town, a form of street art where objects or structures are decorated with knitted or crochet materials.
“Our library patrons are simply delighted when they see this unique art in the trees,” said librarian LeAnn Kunz. “It’s something different that puts a smile on everyone’s face.”
