Area youngsters ? age 8-17 years of age ? will have an opportunity to fly the friendly skies over Mt. Pleasant Saturday.
The Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis Club will host its annual Young Eagles fly-in Saturday from 8-11:30 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Municipal Airport.
?This is a great opportunity for a lot of kids who have never flown before,? remarked Steve Gray of the local Kiwanis Club.
Pilots front the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Burlington bring their planes to the event. The Kiwanis Club supplies the fuel.
Gray said there are generally four to seven airplanes just waiting to take area children on a free 15-20-minute flight. ?It all depends on the number of pilots available,? Gray said.
The Young Eagles program has been developed by the EAA to welcome young people into the world of aviation.
All pilots are FAA licensed. All flights are conducted in FAA registered airplanes and according to federal regulations. No acrobatic or non-standard maneuvers will be performed.
A parent or legal guardian must be present with each child and complete a registration form that will be provided at the airport Saturday morning.
Questions and or requests for more information should be directed to Gray at 385-3243.
