Colorful signs that said, ?Lemonade 50¢? and ?Gramma?s Famous Homemade Lemonade? adorned the newly paved sidewalk along East Washington Street yesterday afternoon, Aug. 17.
Alexa Dingman, 6, Nathan McWilliams, 7, Abby Dingman, 9, and Emily Dingman, 11, were all smiles as they offered passers by cool lemonade and sugar cookies. The four young entrepreneurs were visiting their grandmother, Alice Fitzpatrick.
The handmade sign affixed to the card table explained that 10-percent of the sales will be donated to the Fellowship Cup. However, one need not read the sign to understand, as the four children operating the stand were quick to explain what they were doing.
Fitzpatrick explained that it was the group?s fifth year holding a lemonade stand in her front yard, ?We?ve been doing this since Nathan was two,? she said. She also explained that it was the second year they had donated to the Fellowship Cup.
?It?s a good thing to do and the kids really enjoy it,? said Fitzpatrick.
Despite the construction the stand had attracted nearly 20 customers by 3 p.m.
?Thank you!? and ?Have a nice day!? were common phrases shouted from the smiling crew as customers walked on down the sidewalk with a cup of lemonade in one hand and a cookie in the other.
