Young returns as head of Washington Co. Supervisors

WASHINGTON — The Washington County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to appoint Richard Young as its 2024 chair Tuesday morning, during the group’s first meeting of the year.

The motion to appoint Young was made by Supervisor Stan Stoops. Asked after the meeting why he chose to put Young in the chair specifically, Stoops said only that the fellow supervisor was “very experienced.”

Young, who has served as the decision-making body’s leader before, accepted the nomination with little discussion.

“I mean, I’ll do it,” he said, later calling his nomination, “surprising.”

Bob Yoder, who has served as the board’s chair for the last year, was appointed instead as its vice chair for 2024. That motion also passed unanimously.
