Albert N. Thornton, 73, of Hillsboro, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Albert was born on February 23, 1948, in Mt. Pleasant the son of Claude Albert and Betty Ann (Davis) Thornton. Albert worked for Metromail of Mt. Pleasant for several years before he retired. He served for a number of years on the Hillsboro Fire Department as an EMT, and the Hillsboro City Council. He enjoyed reading, watching movies, fishing and eating popcorn. His nieces and nephews were very important to him. Albert was a member of the Hillsboro Baptist Church.

Albert is survived by his sisters, Rhonda (Bob) Fetterman of Mt. Pleasant, Chris (Tim) Jayne of Mt. Pleasant and Claudia Davis of Davenport; his brothers, Jack (Becky) Thornton of Salem and Steve (Christina) Thornton of Mt. Pleasant; along with several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro, Iowa, with Pastor Dave Gavin officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. The family will not be present. A memorial has been established in his memory.
