Alice J. McCuen
Alice Jean McCuen, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, Oct. 5, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation for Alice will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11, from noon to 7:30 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. The family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert David officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.

Born June 15, 1930, in Oskaloosa, Alice was the daughter of Floyd and Hazel Daggett Barnes. She was a 1949 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College. In 1950, she married Charles R. McCuen. Alice was a lifelong and committed resident of the Mt. Pleasant community and was a homemaker.
A longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Alice served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. She was also a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity and T.T.T. Society Chapter DD of Mt. Pleasant. In her earlier years, Alice was a Cub Scout den mother and a Brownie leader. She served as a volunteer for a number of charitable organizations and committees. She enjoyed family, music, sewing and fashion, reading, and cultivating friends, plants, and nature.
Alice is survived by a son, Rob McCuen of Milwaukee, Wis.; a daughter, Mary McCuen of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a sister, Betty Thayer and her husband Duane of Geneva, Ill.; a brother, John Barnes of Burlington; and her special friend, Jim DePriest, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant. She is also survived by five nieces, two nephews, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents.
