Alice Smith

      Alice Smith, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 3:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2001 at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.

      The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. David Plooster officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her memory.

      Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 21, 1906, in White Oak Community, the daughter of Ralph and Ada Lane McClure. She married Werner Smith in 1927 who preceded her in death. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church.

      Survivors include her two sons, Gary and Kim Smith of Danville, Calif., and Jim Smith of Grand Junction, Colo.; a daughter, Margaret and Don Kennedy of Redding, Calif.; a brother, Bob and Lou McClure of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Elsie Swailes of Mt. Pleasant; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Carlos and Don, and a sister, Margaret Peterson.
