Allan Lloyd Gerst, 84, of Burlington, died Sunday, Nov. 4, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
According to Mr. Gerst's wishes, his body will be cremated. There will be no visitation or service, with a private family graveside inurnment to be held at a later date.
Mr. Gerst was born March 30, 1923 in Oakville, the son of Adolph Eugene and Rosa Marie Knapp Gerst. A 1941 graduate of Wapello High School, he served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II.
He worked as a machinist for Champion Spark Plug for 28 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Golf Association. American Bowling Congress and Three I Credit Union. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and building kit cars. He had his pilot's license and enjoyed flying airplanes.
He is survived by one son, Marlan Gerst and his wife Phyllis of Burlington; three daughters, Karen Gerst-Johnson and her husband Butch Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, Janice Gilleard and her husbande Gale of New London and Lynette Moore and her husband Jesse of Thayer, Mo.; one brother, Edward Gerst of Mediapolis; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and six brothers preceded him in death.
