Allan Miller, age 85, of Ankeny, IA passed away peacefully, February 16, 2024.
In loving memory of Allan Miller, a private service will be held for the family. Those wishing to send condolences may do so by mailing them to 2815 149th St., Urbandale, IA 50323.
Allan Ray Miller was born on July 31, 1938, to parents Lloyd & Marie (Thoms) Miller in Ithaca, NE. He grew up and attended elementary school in Ithaca, NE and graduated with Wahoo High School’s Class of 1956. He went on to the University of Nebraska for two years before enlisting in the United States Armed Forces where he served 3 years as a specialist 5th class sergeant.
On May 2, 1965, Allan married the love of his life, Cheryl Robbins, at the Methodist Church in Wahoo, NE. This union was blessed with three children: Holly, Brant, and Todd. Allan and Cheryl began their married life in Wahoo, before moving to Mt. Pleasant, IA where they spent the next 41 years raising their family before moving to Ankeny, IA in 2021.
Allan worked hard for the agriculture industry serving in different sales and management positions. He started as the manager of the Ithaca Farmers Cooperative before moving into the management position at the Wahoo Farmers Cooperative. After moving to Iowa, Allan worked in sales at Oetknen’s and McCallister’s, before moving into a management position at Liquid Grow in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
Allan exemplified a true sports enthusiast throughout his life. Whether fervently cheering for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Iowa State Cyclones, Chicago Cubs, or any of his kids’ or grandchildren’s sports teams; Allan’s loyalty to his beloved teams was unparalleled. One of his favorite memories was being in attendance at Wrigley Field with his sons and daughter-in-law when his beloved Cubs won the 2016 World Series! Beyond being a dedicated fan, he generously shared his knowledge and love for the game by coaching his children in Little League. Allan found joy in golfing, bowling (even achieving the remarkable feat of bowling a perfect game), collecting coins, and card games, especially playing rounds of UNO with his grandkids.
Most of all, Allan treasured time spent with his family, especially his 8 grandchildren. Being around them always brought a smile to his face. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Cheryl Miller of Ankeny, IA; children: Holly (Ryan) Gilmore of Urbandale, IA, Brant (Suzanne) Miller of Huxley, IA, and Todd (Jessica) Miller of Huxley, IA; grandchildren: Lauren, Grant, and Anna Gilmore; Kate and Bryce Miller; Malia, Ava, and Miles Miller; and his sister, Judy Nygren of Wahoo, NE.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Marie Miller; brothers Kenneth, Harold, and Robert Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Allan Miller Memorial Fund in care of the family.
