Allen Darbyshire, age 81, of Washington, passed away on June 21, 2019, at the Halcyon House in Washington surrounded by his family.
Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Kwang Song and Chaplain Don Combs officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Hospice Compassus and Washington Demons Athletics. Online condolences may be sent for Allen's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com.
T. Allen was born August 3, 1937, in Crawfordsville at the family home of his parents Dale and Gertrude (Swift) Darbyshire. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1955. Allen married Fran Smith on November 18, 1956, in Washington. They are the parents of Kaylene Miller and Karla Garrett.
Allen worked for the ASCS Office, Orkin Pest Control, Farmers Mutual Insurance Assn., and L.J. Roth Reconstruction. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington.
Allen and Fran enjoyed many years at Lake Odessa with family and friends. They logged countless miles, never missing their children and grandchildren's many musical and athletic events. His hobbies were following the Iowa Hawkeyes, and solving Sudoku and crossword puzzles.
Allen is survived by his wife, Fran, of 62 years and his two daughters: Kaylene (Lynn) Miller, and Karla (Jeff) Garrett of Washington. He was the extremely proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Nathan (Brandy) Miller, Adam (Sarah) Miller, Brynna (Craig) Hemsath, Jordan (Kate) Garrett, Braedan (Miriam) Garrett, Caleb (Emily) Miller and Jacob (Micah) Garrett; as well as 15 great-grandchildren with one more due to be born in October: Addison, Reagan, and Easton Miller, Teag, Kora, Hattie and Beckett Miller, Hayden, Garrett, Eli and Mae Hemsath, Maura and Grace Garrett, Moses and Ada Miller. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Ireta Janecek, Alberta Miller and Virginia Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Chuck Hanna; brother and sister-in-law, Lyle and Marilyn Darbyshire; great-granddaughter, Adelyn Hemsath; brothers-in-law: Melo Janecek, Merle Miller and Donald Smith; nephew, Gary Janecek; and his fishing buddy Gerald Hahn.
