Almeda L. Whitham

      Almeda L. Whitham, 90, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of New London, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Park Place Care Center.

      The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at Elliott Chapel of New London. Visitation will be after noon on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the funeral home, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Park Place Activity Fund or Child Evangelism Fellowship of Iowa.

      Mrs. Whitham was born Feb. 12, 1910, near Enid, Okla., the daughter of George G. and Lulu Mathews Miller. She married the Rev. Theodore R. Whitham on Jan. 1, 1929, at Fairfield, who preceded her in death on May 14, 1999. A graduate of Fairfield High School, she also attended Parsons College in Fairfield. She was a homemaker, working with her husband in home missionary work of the Independent Fundamental Churches of America in the Ozark region of Missouri and the Adirondack region of New York.

      Survivors include a daughter, Ruth and Bob Willits of New London; two sons, David T. Whitham of Racine, Wisc. and Paul R. Whitham of Rockford, Ill.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.
