Andrej Gelement

KALONA ? Andrej Semenovich Gelement, 79, of Kalona, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at Sharon Bethel Church in rural Kalona. Burial was in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the church. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona handled the arrangements.

Mr. Gelement was born June 18, 1937, in Haboviche, Belarus, the son of Semen Semenovich and Irina (Sarlevna) Gelement. He married Nina Zholnerchuk on Nov. 7, 1962.

He and his wife moved to the United States on Aug. 17, 1989. He worked at Country Lane and later at JK Creative Wood. He enjoyed reading, fishing, farming, studying the Bible, and spending time with family.

Surviving are his wife, Nina; four children, Nadezhda Kazakov and husband Alexandr, Nikolay Gelement and wife Tatiana, Lyudmila Nafziger and husband Christopher, and Lubov Shapovalov and spouse Mikhail; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one granddaughter.
