Andrew B. Wellman
Andrew B. Wellman, 81, of West Point, died 8:13 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
The funeral service was 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in West Point with the Rev. David Wilkening officiating. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Link Funeral Home in West Point. The rosary was recited at 3 p.m. Sunday and the Christian vigil service was at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Link Funeral Home. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in West Point. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and St. Mary?s Catholic Church.
Mr. Wellman was born Oct. 17, 1918, at West Point, the son of Gerhard and Mary Rueter Wellman. He married Helen S. Bradford on Sept. 14, 1943, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in West Point. A lifelong West Point resident, he was a retired carpenter and for 50 years a member of Carpenter?s Union Local #410.
Survivors include five sons, Michael , Tony and Bill of Fort Madison, LeRoy of West Point and Martin of Denmark; two brothers, Herman of Burlington and John of Fort Madison; three sisters, Mary Ailor of Cameron, Mo., Geraldine Jacobstein of Miami and Rose Freitag of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
