Andrew L. Small
Iowa City
Andrew L. Small passed away May 19, 2023, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was 53 years old.
Andy was born January 22, 1970, in Cambridge, MA, the son of Barbara Fjeldheim and Harry Small. Andy achieved a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and went on to own and operate The Video Center for 30 years.
Andy was dynamic, creative, exuberant, genuine and often excessive. He was a crazy artist who loved to create anything and everything. It didn’t matter if it was the video projects he poured himself into, or the items and people he collected, he was tirelessly exuberant, sometimes to the point of confounding those around him. He strived to transform those he cared about, challenging them to reach for their dreams and dare to have new dreams. He was an agitator and disruptor, constantly breaking down and rebuilding all he touched. He was truly one of a kind. His passing leaves a hole in our hearts, but his memory and legacy live on through all who loved and knew him, and boy there were lots. Big Andy Small was compelling.
Andy is survived by his cherished daughter, Eve Small (Logan Beaver); His mother, Barbara Fjeldheim; sister, Rachael Todt; mother of his child and forever friend, Erika Siska; and his father, Harry Small.
A simple cremation has been arranged in accordance with his wishes. A Celebration of Life will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at City Park Iowa City shelter 12.
Please continue to keep Andy’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
