ANGELA MARILYN (HEIDE) ILES
Washington
Angela Marilyn (Heide) Iles, formerly of Independence, Mo., died peacefully Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at her home in Washington, Iowa. Internment will be under an oak tree with her loving husband on the family farm in rural Lafeyette County, Mo. Arrangements are by Jones-Eden Funeral Home, Washington Iowa.
Angela was born on the family farmstead in Davis County, Iowa, to Vida (McDaniel) and John Heide on Nov. 23, 1931. She grew up in and around Independence, Mo., graduating from William Christman High School in 1949. She attended Graceland College for two years then transferred to Missouri Valley College for her last two years. There, she was seated next to Herbert Iles in a marketing class. She graduated with a BA in Humanics in May 1953 and married Herbert Edward Iles on Aug. 29, 1953. After several years and cities, they settled in Independence, Mo., raised two children and impacted thousands of lives positively. She was in charge of youth groups and camps for Santa Fe Stake of the Community of Christ Church for years. She taught Sunday school for even longer. She also taught piano and tutored children in a variety of subjects. After her youngest child was in junior high, she returned to the paying work force, joining the Tithe Payer Services Department at the CoC World Church Headquarters. She retired 10 years later. She was ordained to the priesthood office of Teacher, much to her delight. The couple moved to Washington, Iowa, to be close to their daughter and her family. They celebrated 67 years of marriage together.
Angela lived up to her lofty name, being kind and caring, providing thoughtful gifts when unexpected and always searching out those on the edges of society, to befriend, soothe and highlight their humanity for all to see. She loved nature, animals, art and anything related to children under five. She maintained lifelong friendships with her college roommates, Mami Kawasaki of Tokyo, Japan, and Marjorie LaRose, deceased, of Anchorage, Alaska.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Herbert E. Iles; parents, Vida (McDaniel) Heide Buffalow and John Heide; in-laws, Herbert A. and Ester (Swanson) Iles; sister, Fairy (Heide) Johnson Birt Hayward; and sister-in-law, Genevieve (Simpson) Iles.
She is survived by her son, Alexander Iles and grandson Roman Iles of Austin, Texas; daughter, Lynette Iles MD and her husband Paul Towner MD of Washington, Iowa, and granddaughters, Ruth Towner of KCMO and Morgan Szasz of Austin, Texas; sister, Florene Schwensen and her husband David Schwensen of Independence, Mo; brother-in-law, Robert Iles of Lexington, Mo.; and a myriad of nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews from Ohio to Idaho.
Angela looked for the good in everyone, enabling many to see it in themselves or others for the first time.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Washington County Iowa or Hope House of Greater Kansas City, Missouri.
