Anna P. Vorhies

Anna P. Vorhies, 95, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Lockridge, died at 7:55 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.

      The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lockridge. Visitation will begin at noon on Friday, Oct. 27, at Weir Funeral Home with the family present from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Lockridge Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church or the activities fund at Pleasant Manor Care Center.

      Mrs. Vorhies was born Sept. 2, 1905, in Round Prairie Township of Jefferson County, the daughter of Carl F. and Mary W. Stylander Carlson. She married Glen W. Arnold on Feb. 2, 1930, at Fairfield, who preceded her in death on June 27, 1930. On Sept. 26, 1945, she married Merlin K. Vorhies at Lincoln, Neb., who preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 1999.

      She attended Lockridge High School for two years followed by Brown Business College in Fairfield. She worked at the I.A.A.P. in Middletown, was the post office clerk in Lockridge, and was the bookkeeper for Carroll Vorhies Implement of Lockridge. She was a member of Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church and various church circles.

      Survivors include one daughter, Betty W. Arnold of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl. E. Carlson.
