Annette Elizabeth Ginsberg
Annette Elizabeth (Hult) Ginsberg, 46, passed away on February 2, 2006 in New York City following a courageous battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, she was at home in the loving care of her immediate family. Annette leaves behind her loving husband of 23 years, Robert M. Ginsberg, daughter Elizabeth, son David and stepson Simon. Also surviving Annette are her parents, Herbert and Esther Hult of Swedesburg, IA and David (Suzanne) of Rochester, NY. Also surviving are loving nieces and nephews, Kristofer and Laura Hult of Swedesburg, IA, Caitlin and Elissa Hult of Rochester, NY, Patti (Mosbrooker) of Chicago, IL; Michael (Mosbrooker) of Boston, MA, and Eric (Mosbrooker) of San Francisco, CA.
Annette was born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and attended the Waco School. Her love for music quickly became apparent when she started playing violin at the age of five. Later Annette played the piano, flute, oboe, and guitar. However, the violin became her real passion and at the age of eight, she performed Vivaldi's A Minor Violin Concerto with the Tri-Cities Youth Orchestra and later with the Tri-Cities Symphony Orchestra. Annette studied violin with Doris Preucil and was part of a group of Suzuki students who often performed special concerts. In addition, she attended numerous string workshops and summer music camps. During her summer as a student at the Interlochen National Music Camp in Michigan, she was awarded the Honor Camper award, given to the camper who demonstrates not only outstanding citizenship, but exemplary musical achievement as well.
Upon finishing 8th grade, Annette left home to attend high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. During those four years, she traveled throughout the Midwest playing numerous concerts with their orchestra. In the summer prior to her senior year, Annette attended the Meadowmount School of Music in Lake Placid, NY, to study violin with the world-renowned teacher, Ivan Galamian, who immediately invited her to join his violin studio at the Juilliard School upon her graduation from high school.
Annette earned her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in violin performance from the Juilliard School in New York. During this time, she played in numerous musical groups, including the United Nations Symphony Orchestra and the New York Chamber Orchestra, and performed concerts with the New York Chamber Players on tour in France and Germany, and with the Hampshire String Quartet in Alaska. Annette spent a summer studying violin at the Chautauqua Institution where she won the Music School Festival Orchestra's concerto competition. In addition, Annette also played in a string quartet with her brother, David, who was also at Juilliard, which performed regularly at the Carlyle Hotel and the Plaza Hotel, amongst others.
While playing at the Balcony Restaurant, Annette met lawyer and restaurant owner Robert Ginsberg. They soon married and later had their two children, Elizabeth and David. From that point on, her focus shifted to her marriage and family, and she took leadership roles in many of her children's numerous activities. She cherished family time together at their summer beach house on Fire Island and on their trips to the Caribbean and Europe.
Although Annette's passion now became her family, she never lost her great love for music and the arts. She treasured the cultural variety in New York City and was a frequent attendee and supporter of many arts organizations there.
A memorial service honoring Annette's memory was held February 4, 2006 at Riverside Memorial Chapel in New York City. Local services will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. Philip Borleske officiating. Interment will follow at the Swedesburg Church Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 9:30 until service time at the church.
