Anthony Russell "Tony" Stewart, 68, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating. Calling hours will begin 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5 to
7 p.m. Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, Sonshine Ministries or the Washington County Ambulance Service. Tony was born June 2, 1953, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of W. Eugene "Gene" and Betty (Sojka) Stewart. He attended school in Washington where he graduated from high school in 1971. Tony was united in marriage to Kaye Carol Dickinson on October 11, 1980, in Washington, Iowa.
Tony was a self-employed motor and chassis builder, specializing in race cars. He enjoyed dirt track racing. For seventeen years, he raced sportsman class and then late model. After retiring from driving, he remained active mentoring many drivers including 18 years with his son, Steven. Tony enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed lego building with his grandchildren. He was an active "Papa" and was usually found crawling on the floor and playing games with the grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Kaye Stewart of Washington, Iowa; son, Steven Stewart and wife Alyssa of Burlington, Iowa; daughter, Lisa Holts and husband Mike of Raymore, Missouri; five grandchildren, Peyton, Logan, Kale, Ava and Elliott; two sisters, Jane Flander and husband Murray of Keota, Iowa; Rhonda Wilson and husband Tim of Ainsworth, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents.
