Anton (Tony) F. Perkovich
Anton (Tony) F. Perkovich died on Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at his home in Mt. Pleasant.
The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, with a Christian vigil service at 7 p.m. The family will greet friends following the service. Burial with full military rites will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. A memorial has been established to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Mr. Perkovich was born Dec. 14, 1919, in Ironwood, Mich., the son of Matt and Mande Borich Perkovich. He graduated from Luther Wright High School in 1937 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. He joined the Iowa National Guard in 1950 in Boone, retiring as an Administrative Warrant Officer after serving for 30 years. He was also a real estate agent in Boone for many years, a member of the Boone County Board of Realtors, and served as board president in 1975. He also served as associate vice president of the Iowa Association of Realtors for two years.
He was a member of the Iowa National Guard Advisory Council for the state of Iowa and served in several officer positions. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the High Twelve Club, Toastmasters, and American Legion Post #58 and was a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of the Boone Day-Breakers and of the New Amvets Post #44.
Survivors include his wife Mamie; two sons, Frank Perkovich of Boone and George Perkovich of Madrid; two step-daughters, Sandra Guinn and Tammy Moeller of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Rose Catron of Altoona and Ann Harris of Madrid; and two brothers, Matt Perkovich of Columbus, Ga., and John Perkovich of Los Angeles; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
