Arnold "Arnie" Eugene Smith, 62, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, March 2, 2020, at Parkview Home in Wayland. A Celebration of Life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 6, at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. The family encourages everyone attending to wear their favorite sports apparel. Visitation will be held from noon to 7 p.m. with the family present from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Elm Grove Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Rolling Panther Wheelchair Basketball Team.

Arnold Smith was born May 3, 1957, in Rock Island, Ill., the son of Arnold and Rosemond (Edwards) Smith. Arnold graduated from Washington High School in 1975 and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa. He was united in marriage to Nancy Reneger on June 27, 1981, at Bethel Mennonite Church. Arnold was an avid sports fan and loved the Hawkeyes. He was a referee for high school and college football, basketball, volleyball, softball and baseball for 30 years.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Nancy of Washington; children, Amy (Mark) Langr of Washington, Matthew Smith of Clive and Amanda Smith of Washington; siblings, Bob Smith of Washington and Cindy Smith of Washington; and two grandchildren, Bethany and Charlotte.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents.
