Arnold Keith Smothers

Arnold Keith Smothers, 81, of Washington, died Friday, July 31, 2009, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.

    An informal celebration of life service will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Grant Nebel officiating.  The body has been cremated.  Open visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Beatty Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. prior to the service on Monday. Memorials may be designated toward Hospice of Washington County or Pure Water For All Foundation.

    Mr. Smothers was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Washington, the son of Emmett J. and Laura (Cox) Smothers.  He married Lea Day Proctor on June 5, 1965, in Keota.
