Arvid F. Dorothy

      Arvid F. Dorothy, 92, of Batavia died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

      A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Carl Wilhoit officiating. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery with military rites by the U.S. Army.

      An open visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. Monday. Memorials have been established to Hospice of Central Iowa or to the Diabetes Association. Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home.

      Mr. Dorothy was born Jan. 8, 1913, in Wapello County, the son of Perry Herman and Mintie May Davis Dorothy. He married Irene Vivian Henderson April 8, 1950, in Batavia. She preceded him in death.

      Mr. Dorothy was a lifetime resident of the Abingdon and Batavia community. A painter by trade, he was a member of the Painters' Union in Ottumwa for 18 years.

      Mr. Dorothy served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater during World War II.

      He was an avid hunter and trapper.

      Survivors include his daughter, Vickie Heisdorffer and husband Joe of Pella and two granddaughters.

      In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, three brothers and two sisters.
