August W. Grothe July 2, 1918 - September 11, 2003

      August W. Grothe, 85, of rural Winfield, died on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at his home.

      The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15 at Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Philip Borleske officiating. Private family burial will be prior to the service in Swedesburg Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14 at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, with family present from 2 to 3:30 p.m. A memorial has been established to the Swedesburg Church.

      Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Charlene and her husband Steve Giegerich of South Bend, Ind.; a son, Craig and his wife Peggy Grothe of Crawfordsville; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Clara Zimbrick of Glendale, Wis., and Meta Radtke of Arlington, Mass.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Charles Grothe, two brothers and two sisters.
