KEOTA ? Aurelia Bernadette Leinen Adam, 90, of Keota, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at her home.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Keota. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Keota. The Altar and Rosary Society will lead the rosary at 4 p.m., Friday at Powell Funeral Home in Keota. Prayer service will immediately follow, with visitation until 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to University of Iowa research for Lewy Body dementia or Huntington?s disease, or to Holy Trinity Parish in Keota. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Adam was born Jan. 5, 1926, near South English, the daughter of John W. and Anna (Britten) Leinen. She married Wilbert Adam on Nov. 17, 1948.
She graduated from St. Elizabeth Catholic High School in Harper and from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Iowa City. She was a Registered Nurse and worked as a surgery nurse at Mercy Hospital in Davenport prior to her marriage. In 1966 she took a nursing job at Maplewood Manor in Keota, which led to her position as nursing director and later administrator. For many years after her retirement in 1985, she served on the Resident Advocate Committee and also did some Hospice work. She enjoyed her grandchildren, family gatherings and flower gardening. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Altar and Rosary Society, St. Theresa Study Club, Library Club and 500 Club.
Surviving are six children, Louise Brinning of Keota, Janet Sacora and husband Terry of Fairbanks, Alaska, Joe Adam and wife Michele of Bettendorf, Tom Adam and wife Mary Beth of Harper, Julie Adam of Riverside, and Steve Adam and wife Cheryl of Wellman; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Parrish of Cedar Rapids, and Rose Ann Giltner of Fairlawn, Ohio; one brother, Leon Leinen of West Des Moines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbert, on April 24, 2015; one infant granddaughter; one son-in-law, Tom Brinning; three brothers, Donald, Arthur, and Jerome Leinen; and one sister, Mary Catherine Gerleman.
