Barbara Ellen Gesling, 81, of Washington, died Friday ,February 11, 2022, at University of Iowa Hospital

in Iowa City. She was born at home north of Richland to John Lloyd and Addie Belle Cavin Mitchell. Barbara grew up in the Richland area, attended Richland schools

and married Bob Gesling. They were later divorced. She worked at the U.P. Home in Washington for 40 years in housekeeping and many other housekeeping jobs. Barbara lived in Washington most of her life and attended the Presbyterian church.

She is survived by her children, Debra Unternahrer (Chris) of Wayland, Brenda Lyon (Keith) of Brighton, Robin Arnold (Brian) of Brighton, Mike Gesling (Donna) of Eldridge and Jeff Gesling of Washington; 14 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant grandson, Nicholas; an infant brother, Danny; and two brothers, Gilbert and Ralph Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, with Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will be in the Old Methodist Cemetery in Richland. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. General memorials may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Gould Funeral Home, P.O. Box 149, Brighton, IA 52540.
