Barbara Janet Filson, 85,

of Birmingham, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2019, at Birmingham United Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at Birmingham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary Hart and the Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UMC Women's Rebecca Circle or Donor's Choice.

Barb was born May 31, 1934, in Fairfield, Iowa, to Charles and Lottie (Turnbull) Steele. She married Van Edward Filson Feb. 2, 1967, at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield.

Barb was a homemaker and for three years she worked outside the home as a cosmetologist. She was a member of the Rebecca Circle of United Methodist Church in Birmingham and Fairfield Heritage Club.

She will be missed by her husband of 52 years, Van Filson of Birmingham; one sister, Pauline Reeder of Fairfield; and nieces and nephews.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lottie Steele; three sisters, Helen Teeter, Maxine Gittler and Ila Mae Bittle; and two nephews, Don Pottorff and Sanford Bittle.
