Barbara Marie Allen, 80, of North English, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 10, 2026, following an extended illness.

Barbara Marie Allen was born on August 24, 1945. She was the daughter of Alfred Reno and Reva Marie Trumper of Marion. She graduated from Marion High School and Drake University with degrees in English and Spanish. Barbara began her career at Postville High School, teaching there for 5 years. She married Duane Allen on June 7, 1969, and together they made their home in North English. There she taught at English Valleys High School for over 30 years before retirement.

Barbara was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Family was the center of her life and she spent most of her time caring for and enjoying them.

Those left to cherish her memory include: husband Duane of North English, sons Chad (Shelly) Allen of North English and Shawn (Jen) Allen of Williamsburg; 5 grandchildren, Jacob (Alexandra) Allen of Lebanon, MO, Alaina Allen of Wisconsin Dells, WI, Hannah Allen of Washington, DC, Mason Allen of North English, and Zoe Allen of Williamsburg.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, sister Beverly and brother-in-law Ron Draves.

The family would like to give special thanks to Barbara’s friends who loyally visited her multiple times a week. There will be no services at this time. Memorial donations are not requested; those wishing to honor Barbara may do so through acts of kindness towards others or a note to a teacher who has touched your life in a meaningful way.
