WESTSIDE ? Beatrice ?Joy? Doyle, 86, of Washington, died Thursday, March 17, 2011, at the McCreedy Home in Washington.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at the United Church in Westside with the Rev. Richard Francis officiating the service and also the graveside rites at the Westside Cemetery. Donations may be made to United Church in Westside, or Hospice of Washington County. The Huebner Funeral Home in Westside was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Doyle was born Jan. 12, 1925, at home near Botna, the daughter of Wilford and Elsie (Vandeman) Moore. She married Dr. Keith A. Doyle on May 23, 1945.
She attended country school and graduated from Manning High School in Manning in 1942. She attended Commercial Extension in Omaha, Neb., and returned home to teach country school. She and her husband made their home in Westside. Early in her marriage, she worked as a substitute teacher, including a long-term assignment in seventh and eight grades in the Westside School in Westside. She worked with her husband after they opened the Doyle Pet Medical Clinic. She continued to work with the small animal practice after it was sold to the Breda Veterinary Clinic, after the death of her husband in 1980. She was a member of the United Church Westside in Westside. She taught Sunday school, was president of the Mothers Club, participated in the choir and served on the church council. She was a longtime Brownie leader, president of the PTA, Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, and served as county secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary. She lived in Westside until moving to Iowa City in December 2007 to be near her daughter due to failing health. She moved to the McCreedy Home in Washington after a fall in July 2010.
Surviving are three daughters, Kathleen Almelien and husband James of Washington, Dr. Kimberly Fara and husband John Pea of Manning, and Julie Galloway and husband Steven of Iowa City; two sons, Dr. Daniel Doyle and wife Linda of Monmouth, Ill., and Steven Doyle; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, JoAnn Moore of Arizona; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son-in-law, Dean Fara; and one brother, Gale Moore.
