Berdetta V. Dickey
Berdetta V. Dickey, 77, of New London, died on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Elliott Chapel in New London, with the Rev. Matt Miller officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London. Visitation will be after noon on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the chapel, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established to the New London Rescue Unit.
Mrs. Dickey was born on July 28, 1925, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of William Wesley and Elsie Marie Brau Woodsmall. She married Elvin Raymond Dickey on Oct. 16, 1948, in New London, who preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1977. She attended Mt. Pleasant schools. She was a homemaker. She also worked at New London Glove Factory, was an operator for Continental Telephone in Mt. Pleasant, and worked at New London Care Center. She attended New London United Methodist Church. She was a member of the New London VFW Auxiliary, enjoyed bowling, cooking, Hawkeyes and Cubs, and all sports. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, and collected salt and pepper shakers and state plates.
Survivors include three sons, James and his wife Dianne Dickey of Lincoln, Neb.; Dennis R. and his wife Jill Dickey and Micheal and his wife Doris Dickey, all of New London; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dwight "Bud" Woodsmall and Paul "Jake" Woodsmall, both of Mt. Pleasant.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers - two in infancy, and a sister.
