FAIRFIELD ? Bernard R. Coop, 85, of Johnston, formerly of the Fairfield community, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at his home in Johnston.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield with Jeff Coop officiating. Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery, northeast of Fairfield. A luncheon and gathering of family and friends will follow at the VFW in Fairfield. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Antioch Cemetery Association.
Mr. Coop was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Jefferson County, the son of Raymond M. and Ferne (Godwin) Coop. He married Benna Grace Boley on Sept. 2, 1951, at Hillsboro.
He grew up in the Antioch community and was a graduate of Fairfield High School. He was a farmer and worked in construction. He served in the Iowa National Guard. He was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County until moving to Johnston in 2010.
Surviving are his wife, Benna; five daughters, Kristin Gonzalez and husband Alex of Des Moines, Kim Waligora and husband Mark of New Virginia, Becky Mc Intire and husband Steve of Grimes, Sheri Coop of West Des Moines, and Brenda Paulson and husband Jerry of Houston, Texas; one son, Jeff Coop and wife Linda of Urbandale; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bruce Coop of Fairfield; and four sisters, Jo Chambers of Packwood, Sharon Smith of Mount Pleasant, Colee Hospers of Iowa City, and Rose Hendricks of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roger Coop; and one grandson.
