KALONA ? Bernard ?Bud? Thomann, 92, of Kalona, formerly of Riverside, died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 14, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Riverside with the Rev. David Brownfield and the Rev. Rich Adam officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Riverside. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the church, where a rosary and vigil will be held at 3 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Mount Olivet Cemetery, Riverside Fire and Rescue, Iowa City Hospice and Pleasantview Home. Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Thomann was born June 5, 1923, in Riverside, the son of Wilford and Anna (Simon) Thomann. He married Mildred Schnoebelen on Jan. 3, 1945, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church.
He was a third-generation farmer on the land that is still being farmed by his family. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church. He enjoyed feeding cattle, John Deere machinery, trips out west to buy cattle, playing euchre and spending time with his grandchildren and his family.
Surviving are eight children, Larry Thomann and wife Tina of Riverside, Linda Kron and husband Gary of Ainsworth, Ross Thomann and wife Jane of Columbus Junction, Alan Thomann and wife Linda of Riverside, Janet Nicholson and husband Perry of Riverside, Greg Thomann and wife Janice of Riverside, Dean Thomann and wife Sue of Riverside, and Kirk Thomann and wife Teri of Riverside; one son-in-law, Mike Welsh of Riverside; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Hora, and Doris Yeggy and husband Leroy; and three sisters-in-law, Kay Thomann, Barb Thomann, and Alberta Thomann.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; one daughter, Ruth Welsh; one granddaughter; three brothers, Don, Lawrence, and Jim; three sisters, Marie (Mrs. Ernie) Kiene, Lillian (Mrs. Wilbur) Kiene, and Vera (Mrs. Lou) Sorenson; and one brother-in-law, Edwin Hora.
