Bernice Barbara Roth, 89, of Wayland, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, at Parkview Home in Wayland following a lengthy illness.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Nathan Luitjens officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Creek Cemetery.
Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is handling arrangements. Memorials have been designated to the Parkview Home or Sugar Creek Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 21, 1918 in Albany, Ore., the daughter of Daniel and Lydia Leichty Steckly. On Feb. 16, 1939, she married Gilbert F. Roth at her parents' home in Albany, Ore.
She was a member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and the women's sewing group. Bernice was a housewife and cleaned houses in Washington and Iowa City for many years. She enjoyed helping her husband on the farm, sewing and spending time with friends and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Lynn G. Roth and his wife Linda of Mt. Pleasant and Rodrick D. Roth and his wife Kathy of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Karen Swartzendruber of Wayland; two brothers, Allen Steckly and his wife Anna Mae of Madris, Ore. and Kenneth Steckly and his wife Carole of Corvalis, Ore.; one sister, Florence Graber of Wayland; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her parents, husband, and brothers Harold and Max preceded her in death.
